go right ahead

this is what it looks like when a tractor trailer catches fire and stops traffic on the 401. luckily we noticed a slowdown and hastily exited onto the collectors just before the express lanes literally came to a dead stop. people were getting out of their cars a la the everybody hurts video. if we hadn't gotten off where we did it would have taken HOURS and hours to get home.

and i would not have been in the mood to make my favourite salad. sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, toasted hazelnuts and a white wine vinaigrette.

photo 2.JPG

lying around time is less and less frequent and stella is not getting as much me time.

photo 3.JPG

ok, that was sort of a lie. i guess it's more that my lying around time is spent out of doors these days.

photo 4.JPG

book, ice water with fresh mint, blanket.

in honour of monday being the hottest day of the year so far, i made the hottest dish i know how to. sometimes you just shouldn't fight the sweat. go with it. green curry with hot peppers from the garden and coconut milk. it was soooo good. and so was that frosty beer.

some cat photobombs for your viewing pleasure:

those little sprouts are morning glories. the seeds end up in everything. i've transplanted these out into their own pot but there was already another one this morning and there will surely be more. whatever, free plants! if you want some baby morning glories for the best price there is (ice cream), let me know.

thursday. one week tomorrow i will be getting on a 10+ hour flight to athens where i will be whisked to lefkas to stay on a boat for a week. then back to athens for gallivanting around the ruins. i'm going to learn the goat dance but hopefully not get my camera stolen.

if you know that reference, then we should get married.

the people of camping

these people are kinda the best.

photo 2.JPG

hi! i'm on a walk!

photo 3.JPG

the people of camping inspect the "greasy" possom/chupacabra/dog/raccoon. it was gross.

photo 2.JPG

hello, we are not inspecting roadkill.

photo 3.JPG

tiny stopsign (huge jay?)!

photo 5.JPG

photo 1.JPG

these shells were not fun to walk on. very, very pointy.

photo 3.JPG

the sand WAS though. it is sooo soft and warm.

amazing camping food: cut a sweet potato into large rounds. between each round stick some butter, rosemary, and thyme.

photo 1.JPG

squish it all back together like so:

photo 2.JPG

wrap it in tinfoil and throw it in (or next to) the fire until soft (about 35 minutes). i also brought that quinoa/bean salad. we barely even made it to the mains.

photo 4.JPG

rushed to make the sunset.

it's a start

friday we got out of town (along with a million hatchbacks) to go camping.

photo 1.JPG

city traffic gets worse and worse. it's unbelieveable. something has to be done. it's really stupid that they can't figure this out. it's also pretty irresponsible, because if people had to flee the city (zombie apocalypse) it would be a total fucking disaster. except for people on motorcycles, they would survive. you may not know this but i'm a little obsessed with disaster/survival scenarios.

getting in the camping spirit in the car. more like avoiding the first air conditioning fight of the year (had it yesterday instead).

photo 2.JPG

okay we made it! fire time!

photo 3.JPG

there is actually nowhere i would rather be than by a campfire with my friends. it's the best. the very best.

photo 4.JPG

waking up in a tent is pretty sweet too.

photo 5.JPG

sandbanks is so pretty. this is outlet river.

photo 1.JPG

we went on a long walk on saturday. did not follow the trail exactly, but it took us a few hours, was maybe 8k total if you include walking out of the campgrounds.

"poke it again"

photo 3.JPG

photo 4.JPG

photo 5.JPG

ended up at the far beach somehow.

photo 1.JPG

photo 2.JPG

the "path" was essentially a mown path through fields. it was grown over with these tiny yellow flowers.

photo 1.JPG

saturday afternoon we spent down on the beach. sand napping was had. the sun would come out and be super hot, then go in and it would only be medium hot. but the weather held and none of the thunderstorms that we were supposed to have showed up.

photo 4.JPG

the goose is on the loose!

photo 3.JPG
