chin up

doing things i love (as much as possible when one only has access to necessities), nurturing the self, keeping my own beat and not making compromises. that's the goal, anyway.

nature has a way of making everything better, not to mention being around the people that know you best. babies that want to hug you all the time are also pretty good.

turfin on a pretty day

due to previously mentioned indulgence on friday night, i missed most of the festivities on saturday. so on sunday, i walk in the gates, and who should i see but my favourite little family of four. this guy was havin a time.

photo 3.JPG

photo 4.JPG

photo 2.JPG

oh those little fingies just kill me

photo 3.JPG

photo 5.JPG

party baby!!

photo.JPG

uh, and then it rained. a lot. my face says it all. at first it was ok, and then it was not ok.

IMG_1587

this is obviously back when it was ok.

IMG_1585

and returning to not ok.

photo 1.JPG

my boots held up.

photo 2.JPG

the blanket did not. it was soaked, along with everything else. unlike everything else, it was wool, and very heavy. jana is a hero for dealing with that. we had a moment of everything being difficult and nothing being ok. shaky hands, panic kind of feeling. here's a tip: plastic bags. you can sit on them, wear them as raingear, wrap wet stuff in them and throw them out. no carrying, no worry, and they pack small.

photo 3.JPG

then the sun came out (kind of) and everything was ok. then kurt vile came out, and everything was more ok. that was pretty cool, what a cool dude. wow my hair is gross. that's completely natural. natural hair texture "gross".

photo 4.JPG

photo 5.JPG

ok!

ps these are the stairs at the end of the dark park i carried my bike up. it is not dark here. i left to rest and didn't get back up. not as young as i used to be.

get turfed

further to my previous posts about joel plaskett and then justin townes earle, here are some turf-related things for you.

first of all i put on my "i am super hot temperature-wise and would like to trick people into thinking i am also hot hotness-wise even though being super hot temperature-wise kind of prevents that" outfit, after consulting with natalie about how stupid i looked in everything. wearing a sheer white shirt on top of a black bra is a surefire strategy in said hotness trickery. the bartender said i was going to be the most popular girl in the field once it starts raining. she was wrong but i felt good.

photo 1.JPG

i finagled myself a VIP wristband so that i could awkwardly stand around with people i didn't know, which lead to drinking constantly out of social anxiety so before i knew it i was feelin pretty stevie nicks-y if you know what i mean.

no matter, i stood up in the front of stage area and danced by myself, in a big empty awkward space because it was too late to go all the way around and join the rest of the crowd.

"hi, i'm your weirdo fan that's here by herself and the only person dancing in this area otherwise populated by dads who don't care about you"

photo 2.JPG

see? just doing some awkward moves five feet behind these guys.

photo 3.JPG

i am really, really glad i wore these boots. go me, look at me making practical decisions all on my own. i was mildly smug about people with mud in their sandals. does the forecast mean NOTHING to you? respect the forecast.

photo 4.JPG

the set was good but was missing a few of my favourites. that being said it also included some favourites.

photo 1.JPG

it was a quick set, so back to drinking free samples. here are some bros:

photo 2.JPG

i don't know why i took that photo, i just thought it was funny for some reason.

started at the bottom (more on that later)

photo.JPG

free drinks, cheers!

photo 4.JPG

here's a tip: don't put a huge bin of cold beer next to an arm-sized gap in your plastic fence, while surrounded by thirsty concert-goers who resent paying $9 for a Canadian.

photo 2.JPG

look, a unicorn shirt! do you think i was drunk?

photo 3.JPG

time for the arkells. there's that Drake billboard everyone is talking about. well one person at least. STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM etcetera whatever.

photo 5.JPG

ooh your head shadows look so cool

photo 1.JPG

the people were happy.

photo 3.JPG

then i decided i was too drunk so i batmanned outta there. upon making my exit i ran into a friend, who ran and got a golf cart to transport me safely to my bike.

photo 4.JPG

it was fun:

then, in order to avoid going down garrison road to fleet st and around to strachan, i cut west through the darkest, most abandoned park area i can imagine, my rationale being that both ways looked abandoned and scary, but this way would at least be shorter. I WAS WRONG. very wrong. this way was not much shorter, but definitely MUCH SCARIER. and not in that "this is sort of thrilling" kind of way, more in that "i am doing something very stupid and i'm in too far to go back, i'm trapped in a nightmare feeling sick to your stomach" kind of way.

i was trying to keep up with a group of people who had gone in, but by the time my bike was unlocked they were long gone. it was only a few minutes, but i was pretty sure that i was about to meet my maker. i hulk-carried my bike up the set of stairs that unexpectedly greeted me on the other side as quickly as possible and boogied.
