when i was little i thought magnolia would make a nice girls name. i think secretly i just wished i was named after something so beautiful. i also thought "placenta" was a girls name the first time i heard that word. i have a very, very sharp long term memory-short term is terrible but that's another story. i feel lucky to have the memories that i do. i can remember things as far back as probably 3. small moments that i have gone over and committed to memory.

one is my sister falling out of bed and hitting her head at the cottage. we were in a cottage that i think we left when i was around 4. i was very worried.

at that same cottage i also remember my dad waking me up to show me tiny baby mice that they had found in a cupboard. he showed me them and i loooooved them and was in wonder, as he knew i would be. thank you for that. it's all the extra stuff that you don't need to do that kids remember.

he also once caught a vole in a tennis ball container to show us. it was trying to scramble out so he let it down where he had found it and we watched it blindly find its way to the bush.

we were taught that animals had a right to be there, moreso than we did, that we were to fit into THEIR world without harming them or disrupting their lives. i am so thankful for this, i think it has made me a compassionate person.

i also think that it is part of my general love for nature, which is the reason why my heart explodes during the spring. i don't want to be inside, ever. i don't want a real job. i want my job to be reading in the park. or hiking. who wants to pay me to hike?
here are some guest cats to the blog. if you have ever walked anywhere with me you will know that i have to stop and say a respectful hello to every cat along the way. i don't want to interrupt their day, just say hi and make sure they're ok.
this guy was havin a time. (note grey cat in background)

this one came forward once he saw the attention that the other was getting.

well this concludes todays episode of crazy cat lady. tune in tomorrow for what will undoubtedly be MORE CATS!
