Bad Girls

in 1965 LIFE photographer Bill Ray spent a few weeks with a group of Hells Angels. the resulting photos were never published. you can see the whole (amazing) collection here.

obviously, my favourites are the ones featuring the SERIOUSLY BAD-ASS old ladies.
think about what most women looked like in 1965. now look at these:















curlers AND a broken nose? come the fuck on. i can't ignore the fact that that broken nose was likely caused by a fist (it's no secret that there is a culture of violence against women in H.A.) and i obviously don't mean to glamourize that in any way (you will know this if you know me). just sayin' - those are some tough ladies. if there is a lesson to learn here it's that from now on i give even less of a shit about what anyone thinks. or something.
