we missed all the ice storm excitement by escaping the city early saturday morning. arriving to several feet of snow was a relief since really the best things about being up there in the winter involve snow-based activities.

this tree is like "ugh get offfff me"

went for a walk in the blue fading light as soon as we were settled in with groceries, heat on, beds made.

henry! henny! hank!

dripping with snow, everywhere you look.

the abode. very cozy. books and tea and wine and cozy tv time and stretching and naps and shortbread.

the next day was for hunting christmas trees. we encountered the tractor/plow/snow-blower on the road.

that thing is at least 30 years old.
one of you is coming with us (far right i'm looking at you).

it's you. thank you nature for this tree. you're welcome for clearing out some breathing room for all the others. now they can grow to their full potential and escape being cut down for a living room next year.

tree collected, time for a walk in a different direction. visiting my dad's rock is a ritual.

i love how it looks different in every season. it reminds me that the land keeps changing, whether you're there or not. it is there right now, looking different then when i saw it last. wait for me, land, i'm coming back.

i wished him merry christmas. private moments.
this would be his view. not a bad resting place.

the lake looked like this for a few days. not quite frozen enough.

another walk. or a ski. can't keep track. the snow was light and fluffy, it gathered in puffballs. it has now become dense, and is falling off the trees in huge clumps that do not care where you are standing.

ugh the light. it's the light that really makes it magic up there. i saw sun in the forecast and insisted on a snowshoe, it was the only real sun we had all week. can't wait to look at those photos on something bigger than my phone.

so many trees.

sisters on skis. hi. i want to go back. i am most myself when i'm there. i'm going back, tomorrow. the city can't keep me.

Nice pics! I keep trying to remind myself to bring my 5D out more often and get more diary pictures, not just instagram.
