the bloodwork came back in and her creatinine levels are up from 220 to 230. because of it we are back to giving her sub-cutaneous fluids every second day. it is a sign of the slow decline that was to be expected. no surprises, but still breaks my heart. i just can't imagine how i will get through it when it eventually starts getting really bad. there is no way to know how long it will take. the thing is that there is nothing that can be done other than what is already being done - special food and extra fluid under her skin to help her stay hydrated. they just get skinnier and weaker and then their organs fail. you can't give a cat a kidney transplant (to which i yelled "BUT WHY NOT?" with tears streaming down my face when they first diagnosed her). they can't. they don't, and won't.

the most gentle sweetest tiniest little mouse-cat that ever was. i keep telling myself that it could be worse, that it's only a slight increase, that she's still got a few years to go, that she is lucky to be in the care of people who will do whatever it takes to keep her as healthy and happy as possible. there are so many things you can't control, but there are also things you can. i'm going to focus on those.

So sorry to hear, but you are right, Stella's very lucky to have cat parents like you two <3
Aw, I'm so sorry, Sarah... you're right to focus on the things you can control, though, and the love and snuggles of course. :)
