friday night plans fell apart after everyone was too tired for wine and cheese. friday is hard. you want to see friends but your body says "no, you've been running around for too damn long get on your COUCH." so i did. and then julia and i made a backup plan of meeting at bar neon for a drink or two. easy. done. i can do that. so i changed out of my pjs and put some lipstick on to disguise my end-of-week laziness. i won't be doing that again, lipstick and bangs is just too much on my face at once. maybe once i get more used to it.
i walked all the way home. i didn't feel scared for the first time in a long time.

they still haven't caught my neighbourhood's resident pervert but it seems he's been scared off because there hasn't been a (reported) attack in weeks. i say (reported) because this shit happens all the time and we happen to live in a rape culture where people are afraid to report and publicize lest they be told they shouldn't have been out at night or dressed that way or dared to be alone. it seems like an extreme term if you're not familiar but if you read the definition i think you'll find that you can recognize examples all around you. you won't have to look far.

the park is beautiful at night. i don't walk through though. i don't know why i look so shocked here. SHOCKED (joan cusack voice).

this part was not as fun. we need more streetlamps. there are stretches of sidewalk in my neighbourhood that are completely dark. i keep saying i'm going to write to someone but i don't really know who to write to about that. my MP?

a man who walked up behind me quickly said "i'm coming up on your left don't be alarmed" and walked past me. i told him it was very appreciated. i had slowed my pace and cocked my ears. this is a good start and an important bridge. we're all in this together, yeah?
then i got home and watched the video for news of your son while lying in bed. i love that song. i won't post it because i already have, at least once. sometimes i need to hear it. accidental screencap:

saturday i woke up AFTER NOON. it has been YEARS since i've slept in that late. i needed it so badly. just a solid nine hour sleep. i woke up for a few hours around 7. then finally got to go to the burger's priest for their portabello/cheese/deep fried veggie burger (with everything). it was incredible. i think i was really hungry.

so much cheese. delicious cheese. my stomach hates cheese so i don't eat it that often. this meal did not settle well. i don't know what i expected would happen after putting a huge lump of cheesy/deep-fried/white flour deliciousness in my stomach but one can always hope. oh my god i want one right now.
then, you know, this happened. it WAS caturday, after all.

little squidgers

saturday night went to a birthday party, but that deserves special attention so i'm saving it. sunday i scrubbed the kitchen floor. just SCRUBBED the hell out of it on my hands and knees. also went for a very unsuccessful run, i ended up walking for most of it but at least i got some good distance in. i have a strained quad and it's driving me crazy. it's been a week and a day, hopefully i won't feel it so much next time. going to try again in a day or so.
giant beer time!

this is an annual tradition, so even though i was feeling worn down from the run and the scrubbing, as well as hungover from the party we decided we couldn't miss it. i always marvel about how that whole thing has to fit in my stomach and hold it up to my abdomen. bartender alex said it's probably better not to think about that. as usual, i crushed it. and had a pretzel.
then, thanks to twitter and patio gossip, we learned that the tragically hip were doing sets of three songs in front of supermarket every hour on the hour from 3-6.

so we (drunkenly) wandered up there and sure enough there was a thing a-stir. i've never seen them, and i'm canadian so that's just not right, and what the hell I LIKE THEM OKAY? everyone we talked to was like "yeah not really my thing" and i was like "oh your thing isn't classic awesome songs that you remember from your teen years and you didn't make out for the first time ever to wheat kings? oh ok. well i'm going to catch this because i'm here, it's free and also it's kind of a cool thing for a band to do." i love this city.
check the people on the roof in the reflection.

lots of kids, that dad was just bouncing his kid around dancing. so fun.

gord downie getting his cool guy on. i took a video of them playing bobcaygeon. don't even tell me you don't like that song, i know you do.
